Topic: Some people believe that we are happier than our forefathers. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement.
In this modern era of science and technology, life is sage, secure and comfortable. Globalization and technology are indeed a boon which has led man to be an inventor as well as a conqueror. He seems happier than before. However, in my opinion, the happiness of today's men is superficial and is only in the sense of physical world. This essay will further explore this topic.
Undoubtedly, the modern world has given us myriad benefits in terms of communication, luxury and food security. Technology and globalization have bestowed upon mankind enormous opportunities. Communication is prompt and information is passed at the blink of an eye.Growth and advancement in terms of travel, education and business have no limits.
Nevertheless, in spite of modern advancements we aren't happy. Firstly, technology has enslaved men who, despite his talents, resources and potentials, has become a cripple in presence of machines. Artificial intelligence disguised as helpful digital assistances and self-driving vehicles is gaining a foothold and scientists predict that it could one day spell the end of mankind if allowed to develop without strict control. To exemplify, development in personal digital assistants like Siri and Alexa are just the beginning of the applications trying to gain human level intelligence.
Furthermore, sense of security is lost in the present age.We are in constant threat of bombing air-planes,nuclear war, drastic climatic change, pandemic and terrorism. In contrast, our forefathers derived happiness from simple things in life like family and real life friends rather than virtual ones.
To conclude, misunderstanding peace and contentment with pleasure and success, today's men is constantly trying to seek materialistic happiness at the cost of moral values. Hence, our forefathers were much happier than us as they lived a life of simplicity, compassion and spirituality .
